Inauguration of the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum
The 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will be inaugurated tomorrow, under the Chairmanship of Eng. Abdallah Ghorab the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, with the participation of ministers and 11 major gas exporting countries' heads of delegation; including Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, besides Norway, Kazakhstan and Netherlands as observers.

The Minister of Petroleum announced that the Gas Exporting Countries Forum was founded officially in December 2008 aiming at strengthening and bolstering mutual benefit among the member countries, as well as encouraging the dialogue with the gas consuming countries and achieving balance between gas exporters and importers to achieve the best economic exploitation of natural gas. In addition to, achieving sustainable development, increasing the efficiency of natural gas activities and the improvement of the technologies used in the industry. He added that the Conference will review price volatility in global gas markets in light of the variables witnessed by world energy markets, taking into account the present or future gas export contracts, in order to achieve the common interests of all parties. He pointed out that these conferences contribute to the coordination between Member States and promote common policies to provide the necessary investments for the implementation of strategic gas projects, to address the expected global increase in global demand rates on gas, which is the fastest-growing primary energy sources worldwide, along with the importance of holding such conferences to exchange experiences and information.
However, Mr. Leonid Bokhanovsky, Secretary-General of the Forum mentioned that the Conference agenda includes a report on the achievements of the Executive Board and the Secretariat of the Forum during the current period along with the present performance as a step for strengthening the Forum. The Forum, also, highlights the developments in regional and global natural gas markets, as well as reports and recommendations on the preparations for holding the 1st Gas Summit of the GECF, for the kings and heads of states which is scheduled to be held next November, in Qatar .
