This course covers the fundamentals of digital communications and industrial local area networks. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and the basics of Ethernet are included. Lab activities involve: the investigation of basic serial data communications; an introduction to Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) hardware and SCADA software; programming/configuring of digital transmitters and controllers; and various industrial communication protocols.
Who Should Attend:
This course will be of great value to those who wish to learn the fundamentals of SCADA, DCS and PLC systems. This course assumes an understanding of basic engineering principles and some field exposure to processing plants and their operation. Suggested participants includes: New Engineers, Senior Engineers/Managers, Process, Electrical and Instrumentation engineers involved in field or plant operations, plant process control and maintenance.
Course Content:
• Overview of Data Communications in Instrumentation • Data Communications Fundamentals • Industrial Local Area Networks (ILANS's) • Field bus Protocols • SLDC Networks • DCS Networks • Introduction to DAS, DCS and SCADA Systems Computer Simulations and Laboratory Exercises An important feature of this course is that, through computer simulations and laboratory exercises, participants will get hands-on experience using the most up-to-date computer software related to DCS and SCADA systems. Some of the applications will relate to • The configuration of operator screens in a SCADA application. • RTU/DCS configuration as well as communications configurations • Communications protocol as well as basic LAN topology.
