1 – INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT • Global environment issues • International legislation’ treaties and conventions • The concept of ‘Duty of Care’ • Introduction to ISO 14001, a specification for an Environmental Management System 2– Identification of Significant Aspects (Risk Assessment Approach) • Policy development and objectives setting • Environmental Risk Assessment • Identification of environmental aspects, • Practical Implementation • EMS programs 3 – Implementation and Operations and Checking and Corrective Action • Structure and responsibility, training and communication • Documentation and document control • Operational control • Emergency preparedness and response • Monitoring and measurement • Nonconformity and corrective and preventive action 4 – Auditing the Environmental Management System • Establishing a management system audit program using ISO 19011 as a guideline • Scheduling and performing management system audits. • Investigating the root causes of nonconformities and taking effective corrective and/or preventive action • Preparing the organization for a successful third-party certification audit • Practical Implementation 5 –WASTE Management Techniques • Waste definition • Waste types and characteristics, focusing on Oil Industry waste (oil-based mud cuttings, Norm, Oily effluent waters, Pyrophoric waste, sludge and scales,..) • Waste prevention/ minimization/ re-use/ recycle • Waste collection and transportation • Common waste disposal techniques: o Landfill o Thermal desorption o Incineration o Bioremediation o Downhole injection o Landfarming • A demonstration of an applied waste management procedure
