Prospect and Play Assessment in Hydrocarbon Exploration

Course Objective:

The course is a five day program designed for experienced geologists and geophysicists responsible for hydrocarbon exploration. It is delivered in a classroom style with sessions to include theoretical summaries, and use of geological maps that bring the field conditions into the class environment. Participants will be required to participate in the group work that models the various types of basins known to contain hydrocarbons.

Who Should Attend:

All exploration team members and leaders including geologists, geophysicists, geochemists, analysts, reservoir engineers, economists, planners and managers who make business decisions based upon .exploration data.

Course Content:

• Introduction to prospect and play assessment • Applications of volumetric prospect assessments • The statistical fundamentals for risk and volume assessment • Probability methods • The difference between risk and uncertainty • Risk analysis • Calculating volume ranges for prospects • Hydrocarbon charge assessment • Play assessment techniques • Play recognition and mapping
